The Indian government officially notified a ₹62,500 crore mobile manufacturing scheme on August 21, 2026, aimed at boosting domestic production and local sourcing.
The policy offers additional financial incentives for Indian brands that design and manufacture devices locally, with a goal to establish a homegrown mobile brand by mid-2027.
IT Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw stated that the scheme is designed to eliminate reliance on imported components and expects India-designed phones to hit the market within 10-14 months.
