Centre Notifies 40 Census 2027 Questions Including Caste and Vaccination

The Union Government notified 40 questions for the Population Enumeration phase of Census 2027, marking the first time caste will be enumerated for all citizens in Independent India.

The questionnaire includes demographic details, Covid-19 vaccination status, bank account counts, and identification numbers like Aadhaar, mobile, voter ID, passport, and driving licence, as per the August 14, 2026 notification.

The exercise begins on August 17, 2026, in Ladakh and snow-bound areas of J&K, Uttarakhand, and Himachal Pradesh, before expanding to the rest of the country in February 2027.
