Shreyas Royal and Bodhana Sivanandan Win British Chess Titles

Seventeen-year-old Shreyas Royal became the youngest British Chess Champion in history, scoring 7.5/9 to break a record held since 1989 by 65 days.

Eleven-year-old Bodhana Sivanandan won the British Women’s title after a rapid playoff, becoming the youngest champion in the event's history by defeating WGM Trisha Kanyamarala 1.5-0.5.

The 2026 championships in Coventry also saw the end of Michael Adams' 87-game unbeaten streak, which had lasted for 37 years and 361 days, following a loss to IM Svyatoslav Bazakutsa.
