Andhra Pradesh Reports 2 Covid Cases; Omicron RF.5 Variant Detected

Union Health Minister J P Nadda informed Parliament that two COVID-19 cases were reported in Andhra Pradesh over the past month, with genomic sequencing identifying the Omicron RF.5 sub-lineage.

Between June 24 and July 26, 2026, the state recorded 12 total cases and three deaths in YSR Kadapa district, where all deceased patients suffered from pre-existing co-morbidities.

The WHO has not classified the RF.5 variant as a variant of concern or interest, and the Health Ministry continues to monitor respiratory illnesses through the Integrated Disease Surveillance Programme.
