Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and opposition rival Gadi Eisenkot both vowed to form a government after a tight election on October 27 and 28, 2026, following record turnout near 78%.
Exit polls showed both leaders neck and neck and well short of a parliamentary majority, with Arab Israeli parties delivering the strongest gains against Mr. Netanyahu.
Mr. Netanyahu called for a strong right-wing government and hinted at readiness for action against Iran, while Mr. Eisenkot urged him not to use security for political needs.
