Maharashtra FDA Flags Steep Price Markups on Medical Consumables

Maharashtra FDA Commissioner Tukaram Mundhe wrote to the Department of Pharmaceuticals and the NPPA, recommending guidelines on the gap between trade procurement prices and MRPs.

A state survey revealed massive markups, including an IV infusion set procured at ₹11.05 with an MRP of ₹325 and a syringe procured at ₹6.75 with an MRP of ₹57.20.

Mr. Mundhe noted that unlike scheduled medicines under the Drugs Prices Control Order, most medical devices and consumables remain unmonitored.
