An Agriculture Ministry public-private partnership project to install over 50,000 automatic rain gauges and weather stations is operating at single-digit completion rates and is a year behind deadline.
Private partners report that over 96 percent of planned sensors remain uninstalled due to land shortages and IMD requirements demanding ground installations instead of rooftops.
By September 9, the network delivered only 113 automatic weather stations and 1,730 rain gauges out of targets exceeding 50,500 units, facing site rejections across multiple states.
