Assam Identifies 5.5 Lakh Enrolled Students Absent from Schools

Assam's Education Department identified 5.5 lakh students who are enrolled in schools but have stopped attending classes after one or two months.

The figure was determined by analyzing data from the Shiksha Setu portal alongside records from Anganwadi centers to track student transitions between academic stages.

Education Minister Ranoj Pegu announced the findings during a Teachers' Day program on September 5, 2026, where 15 educators were honored with the State Teachers' Award.
