Two Frankfurt Airport Workers Die From 'Airport Malaria'

Two airport workers have died and four others are recovering after contracting 'airport malaria' at Frankfurt Airport in an outbreak first detected in July.

The Robert Koch Institute reported that the six employees, who had no travel history to endemic regions, were infected with malaria tropica between July 4 and July 6.

Authorities have installed mosquito traps at the airport to analyze the source of the Anopheles mosquitoes, which are believed to have been transported via aircraft from malaria-endemic regions.
