US proposes rule to eliminate 60-day grace period for H-1B workers

The United States proposed a new rule to scrap the 60-day grace period allowing foreign workers on H-1B and other visas to find new employment after job loss.

If finalized, workers who lose their employment before visa expiration must leave the country immediately unless they hold separate authorization.

The Department of Homeland Security stated the proposal restores a direct relationship between nonimmigrant status and specific employment while reducing administrative burdens.
