Kerala CM Offers All Mullaperiyar Dam Water to Tamil Nadu

Kerala Chief Minister V.D. Satheesan assured Tamil Nadu of supplying all water from the proposed new Mullaperiyar dam in Idukki district during the 31st Southern Zonal Council Meeting on August 20, 2026.

Satheesan proposed that Kerala would bear the cost of the new dam to replace the 130-year-old structure, while Tamil Nadu should design, construct, and locate it.

The Chief Minister also urged the Centre to exempt Kerala State Road Transport Corporation buses from National Highway tolls, noting they paid over ₹2.16 crore in June alone.
