Supreme Court Asks Tamil Nadu to Identify Land for Navodaya Schools

The Supreme Court instructed Tamil Nadu to drop its anti-Hindi mindset and gave the State three months to comply with a December 2025 order identifying land for Navodaya schools.

State representatives argued that the scheme is fundamentally incompatible with Tamil Nadu's two-language policy, asserting that language choice is a fundamental right under the Constitution.

The bench stated that the governance structure is unitary in spirit and federal in structure, while the Union government noted that Tamil is taught in these schools with a 99 percent pass record.
