The World Health Organization has called for increased preparedness against H5N1 avian influenza following a regional meeting held from August 25 to August 27.
India reported 11 H5N1 outbreaks in Kerala poultry farms, resulting in the death or culling of over 54,000 birds, alongside three human deaths between 2020 and 2025.
Health experts warn that the simultaneous circulation of seasonal H1N1 and avian H5N1 necessitates a strengthened One Health surveillance approach to prevent potential zoonotic transmission.
