The BSE Sensex rose 628.04 points or 0.82 percent to settle at 77,537.72 on Thursday, ending a four-day declining streak driven by easing US Treasury yields.
The Nifty 50 index gained 153.55 points or 0.64 percent to close at 24,231.85, halting a seven-day losing streak with Nifty Media and Nifty Realty leading sectoral gains.
Market breadth remained positive as Nifty Midcap 100 and Smallcap 100 indices finished higher, though Nifty Chemicals and Nifty PSU Bank indices ended the session in the red.
