
The Indian Institute of Science Bengaluru secured the highest representation among Indian institutions with 139 researchers in the career-long 2026 Stanford-Elsevier World's Top 2% Scientists list.
IISc was followed by IIT Delhi with 114 researchers, IIT Kharagpur with 97, IIT Madras with 81, and IIT Bombay with 73.
A total of 3,898 researchers from 1,185 Indian institutions featured in the 2026 career-long list, which assesses the impact of scientific work using standardised citation indicators.
