The Ministry of Home Affairs directed the deployment of two Rapid Action Force companies comprising about 250 personnel to Pasighat in Arunachal Pradesh.
The decision follows violent protests on Friday over the proposed Siang Upper Multipurpose Project, during which a mob torched an NHPC office, a police station, and houses of three political leaders.
Chief Minister Pema Khandu urged society to maintain peace, noting that the government is merely exploring the project's feasibility as a safeguard against upstream development in China.
