The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India published a draft amendment to prohibit adding sucrose and fructose to foods for infants up to six months old.
The proposal aims to minimize early exposure to added sugars, which are linked to childhood obesity risks and dietary preferences.
The draft is open for public consultation, with stakeholders given 60 days to submit objections and suggestions.
