American economists Michael Woodford and Robert E Hall won the 2026 Sveriges Riksbank Prize in Economic Sciences for microeconomic foundations of macroeconomic stabilisation.
The Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences announced the final award of the year in Stockholm, carrying a prize value of $1.2 million.
The laureates demonstrated how economic models could be reconstructed using microeconomic foundations to revitalise stabilisation policy rather than relying on statistical links.
