Rising Opioid Analgesic Abuse Raises Alarm in Manipur

Manipur Police arrested two persons in Thoubal district on September 14 and seized 15,000 capsules of Tramadol Hydrochloride weighing about 7 kg.

Anti-narcotic officials noted that soaring prices of traditional narcotics like heroin due to ongoing ethnic conflict have driven addicts to prescription opioid analgesics.

A vial of heroin costs nearly ₹5,000 in local media reports, whereas a strip of Tramadol or Tapentadol ranges between ₹40 and ₹400 depending on strength.
