7.7 Magnitude Earthquake Strikes Indonesia, Killing at Least 38

A 7.7 magnitude earthquake hit Indonesia's Flores region at 5:58 a.m. local time on August 15, resulting in at least 38 deaths and widespread building collapses.

The U.S. Geological Survey recorded the quake at a depth of 10 kilometres, with the epicentre located 68 kilometres north-northwest of Ende in East Nusa Tenggara province.

Authorities lifted a tsunami warning after monitoring showed no significant sea-level changes, though landslides cut off the 700-kilometre Trans-Flores highway, complicating rescue efforts.
