The Union government assured the Supreme Court on September 9, 2026, that it will hold urgent consultations regarding a one-time reprieve for current Class 6 students from a mandatory third-language Board exam.
Solicitor General Tushar Mehta requested an adjournment until September 17 to address the court, as the government prepares to discuss the implementation of the three-language formula.
Current CBSE guidelines mandate that the present Class 6 batch faces a full implementation of the scheme, including a compulsory third-language Board exam by the year 2031.
