Microsoft is merging its consumer and business Copilot applications into a single platform to simplify its AI offerings and improve competitiveness against ChatGPT and Gemini.
By August 18, 2026, consumer users will lose access to specific features including Group Chats, AI-generated podcasts, Copilot Labs, and Deep Research capabilities.
The company is also retiring its animated character 'Mico' and migrating files generated by the standalone Copilot app to OneDrive as part of the transition.
