The Karnataka High Court struck down provisions of a 2022 state law that increased reservations for SCs and STs beyond the 50 per cent ceiling.
A bench comprising Chief Justice Vibhu Bakhru and Justice K S Hemalekha ruled that Sections 3 and 4 violated Articles 14, 15, and 16 of the Constitution.
The legislation had raised overall reservations for SCs, STs, and OBCs from 50 to 56 per cent during Basavaraj Bommai's tenure as chief minister.
