The severe cyclonic storm 'Arnab' strengthened into a very severe cyclonic storm at around 11:30 p.m. on Monday, centering over the Westcentral Bay of Bengal about 300 km southeast of Visakhapatnam.

The India Meteorological Department reported that the system is moving west-northwestwards and is expected to cross the coast close to Yanam by Wednesday forenoon.

Srikakulam district received widespread overnight rain, with Palasa recording 41 mm of precipitation, while moderate rain and squally winds up to 60 kmph are forecast for northern districts.
