The Wayanad Prakruthi Samrakshana Samiti urged the Kerala government to abandon the proposed Cheekkalloor airstrip project in Kaniyambetta grama panchayat.
Activists warned that the airstrip would displace over 1,000 families, destroy roughly 500 acres of fertile paddy fields, and threaten regional water security.
Opponents stated the project would violate the Kerala Conservation of Paddy Land and Wetland Act, prompting local farmers to plan protests against the initiative.
