Cyclonic storm Murasu lay centred over the Southwest and adjoining Westcentral Bay of Bengal on Sunday evening, moving west-northwestwards at 25 kmph towards the southern Andhra Pradesh coast.

The system is forecast to intensify into a severe cyclonic storm and cross the coast between Nellore and Narsapur between Monday midnight and Tuesday early hours with wind speeds of 100 to 120 kmph.

The Regional Meteorological Centre forecast heavy to very heavy rain accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning in Tiruvallur district, while Chennai District Collector S. Malathi Helen announced a school holiday on Monday.
