DR Congo Ebola Outbreak Reaches 4,053 Confirmed Cases

The Ebola outbreak in the Democratic Republic of the Congo has reached 4,053 confirmed cases and 1,850 deaths, with Ituri province accounting for 86.9 percent of the total.

Health authorities are investigating potential virus mutations and have expanded the use of the Ervebo vaccine, which was originally developed for the Zaire ebolavirus species.

New candidate vaccines from the University of Oxford and Moderna have entered Phase 1 clinical trials as of late July 2026 to combat the Bundibugyo ebolavirus strain.
