US President Donald Trump signed an executive order directing federal agencies to scrutinize H-1B visa applications from employers that have recently laid off American workers.
The order requires the Departments of State, Labor, and Homeland Security to factor past and planned layoffs into H-1B petition and visa processing.
The White House cited technology-sector data showing employers sought hundreds of thousands of H-1B workers while laying off up to 1.3 million Americans from 2022 to 2026.
