A study of 72,920 adults aged 60 and older found that those who received the recombinant Shingrix vaccine had a 9% lower burden of major cardiovascular events over seven years.
The research, published in Nature Medicine, observed a 10% decrease in ischemic heart disease and a 12% reduction in heart failure among the group receiving the newer vaccine.
While the findings suggest a potential cardioprotective effect, researchers caution that this was not a randomized clinical trial and further studies are required to confirm the link.
