Four-time champion Novak Djokovic suffered a shock first-round exit at the US Open, losing to Mariano Navone in five sets with scores of 7-6(5), 5-7, 4-6, 6-2, 6-1.
The loss snapped Djokovic's 78-match winning streak in Grand Slam first rounds and marked his first opening-round defeat at a major tournament since the 2006 Australian Open.
Djokovic, who committed 70 unforced errors during the four-hour, 36-minute match, cited ongoing health issues including vomiting and physical collapse as factors in his performance.
