Taiwan received the first two of 65 F-16V Block 70 fighter jets ordered from the United States following years of delays, with the aircraft landing at Chihhang Air Base in Taitung.
The 2019 order accounts for USD 8 billion or about 25 percent of a total backlogged US arms shipment list worth nearly USD 30 billion.
The delivery comes while the island awaits US approval for an additional USD 14 billion arms package that stalled after a meeting between US President Donald Trump and China's President Xi Jinping.
