Iran and Oman Finalize Shipping Coordinates for Strait of Hormuz

Iran and Oman have agreed on geographical coordinates for new commercial transit routes through the Strait of Hormuz following two months of negotiations, according to Iranian officials.

The planned routes, which pass through both Iranian and Omani territorial waters, are intended to stabilize maritime traffic after recent conflicts disrupted 20 percent of global oil and LNG exports.

Despite the agreement, Iran stated the waterway remains insecure due to ongoing US naval blockades, with CENTCOM reporting the redirection or boarding of 48 commercial vessels as of August 5, 2026.
