The Bharatiya Janata Party won six seats in the Uttar Pradesh Legislative Council graduate and teachers constituency elections, while the Samajwadi Party bagged five seats in results announced on Wednesday.
The BJP faced defeats in its strongholds of Varanasi and Lucknow, where opposition Samajwadi Party candidates secured victories in graduate and teachers constituencies.
Polling for the 11 seats was conducted on October 23 using ballot papers, amidst a voter turnout that saw clashes and allegations of irregularities at multiple counting centres.
