State-owned oil marketing companies IOC, BPCL, and HPCL rejected allegations of excessive chloride and moisture in E20 petrol after nationwide testing found no evidence of contamination.
Tests on over 1,000 retail outlet samples and 80 distillery ethanol samples showed chloride levels consistently at or below 3 ppm, well within prescribed safety specifications.
The companies have implemented a high-frequency monitoring system, including daily water-ingress tests at 90,000 retail outlets, to ensure fuel quality remains compliant across the supply chain.
