Tamil Nadu assures Green Court of end to water body idol immersions by 2027

The Tamil Nadu government assured the National Green Tribunal that Ganesh idol immersion will not be permitted at Chennai's Foreshore Estate and Neelankarai beaches starting next year.

The administration committed to halting idol immersions in all natural water bodies by 2027 while complying with guidelines from superior courts.

The proposed diversion has raised logistical and law-and-order challenges, with the Chennai Corporation proposing alternative immersion sites such as Kovalam and Ennore.
