Nepal Flood Death Toll Reaches 633 as Rescue Operations Resume

The death toll from the glacial flood disaster at the Nepal-Tibet border rose to 633 on Saturday, with nearly 3,000 people reported missing across the region.

The catastrophe began Wednesday when a glacier collapsed at 5,200 metres, causing a surge that raised the Trishuli River by 9 metres in just 30 minutes.

Nepal has requested urgent specialist rescue assistance from India and China to reach areas cut off by mud and destroyed roads, as authorities monitor an unstable new lake.
