Bhutan has become the first nation in the WHO South-East Asia Region to successfully eliminate dog-transmitted rabies as a public health threat.
The country has maintained a record of zero human rabies deaths since June 2023 through a sustained national strategy involving surveillance and vaccination.
This milestone was achieved by implementing a comprehensive One Health approach, which integrates human and animal health sectors to control the disease at its source.
