Parliamentary Report Highlights Widening Vacancy Gap in Senior Faculty Ranks

A Parliamentary Standing Committee report tabled in March 2025 revealed that faculty vacancy rates across central Indian higher education institutions rise sharply with seniority.

While entry-level assistant professor vacancies stood at 17.97%, associate professor and professor vacancy rates reached 38.28% and 56.18% respectively.

The seniority gap threatens doctoral supervision, research leadership, and mentoring capacity within Indian universities.
