Nepal Flash Floods Kill 160; Hundreds Missing Near Tibet Border

A massive flash flood triggered by a glacial collapse in Tibet has killed nearly 160 people and left over 750 missing, including 133 Indian nationals, across central Nepal.

The U.S. Geological Survey confirmed on August 27, 2026, that the event was a glacial collapse and debris flow, which crippled hydropower projects and destroyed critical infrastructure in the border region.

State governments in West Bengal, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, and Kerala have established emergency helplines to assist families of stranded pilgrims and tourists following the disaster.
