Evacuations were ordered in Dona Ana County, New Mexico on Tuesday afternoon as officials feared the McLeod Dam could fail due to rising water pressure.
The National Weather Service issued a flash flood emergency for the area, noting water from the dam was flowing at 56,100 cubic feet per second.
Officials established an evacuation center at the Radium Springs Community Center in Las Cruces as rural areas between Garfield and Salem faced potential flooding.
