Cabinet Approves Eight Railway Multi-Tracking Projects Worth ₹20,804 Crore

The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs approved eight railway multi-tracking projects on September 9, 2026, with a total investment of ₹20,804 crore to enhance national logistics efficiency.

The projects will add 1,196 km to the existing network across eight states, including Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, and West Bengal, and are expected to generate 74 MTPA of additional freight traffic.

These infrastructure works aim to improve connectivity for 9,910 villages with a combined population of approximately 108 lakhs, while facilitating transport of commodities like coal, cement, and steel.
