Maharashtra Teacher Treks 5 Kilometres Daily to Educate Single Student

Jivan Mithari, a 55-year-old teacher, walks 5 kilometres daily through a dense forest in Maharashtra's Kolhapur district to teach a single officially enrolled student.

The Zilla Parishad school in Kawaltek Dhangarwada has no electricity and lacks motorable roads due to migration that depopulated the remote hamlet after 2000.

Despite encountering wildlife hazards along the route, Mithari has continued teaching at the remote institution since July 26, 2013, ahead of his planned retirement in May 2029.
