ECI Bars TMC Factions from Party Name and Symbol for Bypolls

The Election Commission barred the Mamata Banerjee and Ritabrata Banerjee factions from using the Trinamool Congress name and symbol for the October 6 bypolls.

Both groups must submit three preferred temporary group names and free symbol choices by 11am on Friday under the interim order.

The restriction remains in force until the poll panel delivers a final verdict on competing claims under the Election Symbols Order.
