U.S. President Donald Trump announced that Taiwan has agreed to buy 30% of the natural gas output from Alaska's planned pipeline for 20 years.
Taiwan will also invest $4.4 billion into the infrastructure project as Taipei seeks to secure Washington's favor amid ongoing geopolitical tensions with China.
The 1,300-kilometer pipeline project must overcome technical hurdles and high costs, and is not expected to become operational before 2030.
