Iran and Oman Near Deal to Reopen Strait of Hormuz

Iran and Oman are in the final stages of drafting an agreement to reopen the Strait of Hormuz, having successfully coordinated new commercial shipping routes through the waterway.

The strait, which handles one-fifth of global oil and LNG supplies, was closed by Iran in late February following strikes by the United States and Israel.

Iranian officials stated the new routes could remain in place for two to four months, though they insist the waterway's safety remains contingent on the lifting of the US naval blockade.
