DRC Ebola Outbreak Hits 6,000 Cases and 3,000 Deaths

The Ebola epidemic in the Democratic Republic of Congo has reached 6,041 confirmed cases and 2,911 deaths, marking the fastest-spreading outbreak of the virus ever recorded by the United Nations.

The DRC Ministry of Communications confirmed that 619 patients are currently isolated or hospitalised, while 1,366 individuals have recovered from the Bundibugyo strain for which no approved vaccine exists.

Healthcare delivery remains severely disrupted in eastern provinces due to armed conflict and airport closures, compounded by a strike from frontline workers protesting unpaid wages that began in early August.
