WHO Intensifies Response to Lethal Ebola Outbreak in Congo

The WHO is urgently scaling up its response to an Ebola outbreak in the Democratic Republic of the Congo that has killed over 1,900 people.

Data shows 60 to 70 percent of deaths occur in communities far from care, with the Bundibugyo virus strain currently lacking an approved vaccine.

The agency plans to add 400 beds for Ebola patients and establish new treatment centers outside the epicenter of Bunia to reduce mortality rates.
