Google announced that K-12 schools using its classroom software will lose access to Google Search unless they opt in to using artificial intelligence tools like Gemini.
School administrators can now individually turn each Google tool on or off, with Gemini and search being disabled by default.
The policy drew swift criticism from educators and policymakers, including former FTC chair Lina Khan, who accused Google of using its search monopoly to coerce AI adoption.
