An auction of French screen legend Brigitte Bardot's personal belongings generated nearly one million euros in Paris on Monday, fetching almost 20 times initial estimates.
A total of 285 items from Bardot's Saint-Tropez and Paris homes were sold, with proceeds benefiting her animal welfare foundation and her only child, Nicolas-Jacques Charrier.
The sale faced criticism from Bardot's widower Bernard d'Ormale, who dismissed the auction of personal items as a joke and a disrespect to her memory.
