Amazon has released a system software update that closes a loophole allowing users to keep Libby library books past their due dates by using airplane mode.
The update implements an on-device digital timer that locks files upon loan expiration and tightens digital rights management to prevent users from offloading books from Kindle hardware.
These changes restrict the ability to manage collections via third-party software like Calibre, effectively limiting users to the Kindle storefront for their digital reading library.
